On September 15th, we began rolling out a new look for the Shopify admin: new color, type, spacing, and icons across every page, inside a new frame.

Search, notifications, and the store picker have moved into the side navigation, which collapses for more room on the page. Sidekick has moved from a side panel to a floating chat at the bottom of every page, so it’s in reach from wherever merchants are working.

The new look rolls out gradually and will arrive to your admin on its own with no setup needed.

Go to cart“-Leiste ersetzt.

Shopify POS v11.15 introduces a persistent cart button on phones that keeps key details about the active cart visible as staff move through POS.

The cart button shows recently added items, item count, and running total, so staff can confirm what’s in the cart without leaving the screen they’re working from. It also provides confirmation when changes such as discounts, customers, staff, custom sales, or fees are added.

Staff can tap the cart button to open the full cart from Home, Products, Orders, or Search. When they close it, they return to where they left off, making it easier to move between selling tasks without losing context.

What’s new
* Keep the cart in view: Recently added items, item count, and total remain visible as staff move through mobile POS.
* Open the cart in one tap: Tap the persistent cart button from Home, Products, Orders, or Search to access the full cart.
* See cart updates as they happen: Staff get confirmation when items and other changes are added to the cart.
* Updated mobile navigation: The persistent cart button replaces the Cart tab in the bottom navigation and the previous “Go to cart” bar.

Until now, a product variant could hold one barcode. That's a problem when the same item arrives with a manufacturer's UPC on the box, your own private-label EAN on the shelf tag, and an ASIN on a marketplace listing. You had to pick one and keep the rest in a spreadsheet.

Now you can add up to 20 barcodes to a variant, and any of them identifies the product.

What you can do

  • Add, scan, and remove barcodes right on the variant details page, or from the Shopify app on your phone.
  • Give each barcode a type: UPC, EAN, ISBN, GTIN, or ASIN, and we'll check the value against that standard's format, so a mistyped digit gets caught as you enter it. You can also select Custom for internal codes that don't follow a standard.
  • Update barcodes across many variants at once in the bulk editor.
  • Import and export the full set using the Variant Barcodes column in your product CSV.
  • Channels continue to read the first barcode provided.
  • Scan and find variants on POS with multiple barcodes and SKU (changelog).

What stays the same

Your existing barcodes are already in place, so there's nothing to migrate. The first barcode on a variant is still the one used wherever a single barcode is expected, which means your labels, sales channel feeds, and apps keep working exactly as they do today.

Authorized staff can now view items from an identified customer's abandoned online checkout in Shopify POS. When a known customer shops in store, store staff can look them up in POS and see if they have any items in their online cart. Using this information they can offer to assist the customer with sizing or by answering product questions, and help complete the purchase in person.

This update is available in Shopify POS v11.14 and requires permissions to be turned on. Enable "View abandoned checkouts" in Shopify Admin under Settings > Users > Roles > POS Role(s) > Customers.

In order for an online cart to be displayed the customer must be identified, have an email address, have an eligible abandoned checkout, and the POS session must have location context. Only the products in the customer's online cart is viewable, not their browsing history.

Shopify POS can now identify a product variant using any barcode associated with it, making it easier for staff to find the right product when items have different barcodes across suppliers, channels, or packaging.

What’s new?
Staff can now scan or search for a product variant using any of its associated barcodes, including identifiers such as GTIN, EAN, ASIN, or SKU-based codes. Regardless of which associated barcode is used, Shopify POS will pull up the correct variant.

This reduces the need to manually look up products when the barcode on an item differs from the primary barcode your store typically uses, helping staff find the right item faster during checkout, receiving, and inventory tasks.

This update is automatically available in Shopify POS v11.14. Additional barcodes must first be associated with the product variant in Shopify Admin.

You can now check your device’s connectivity status directly from POS Home. A new status icon makes it easier for staff to confirm that their device is connected and ready to sell before starting checkout.

What’s new?
Connectivity status has moved from the POS side navigation to POS Home, where it’s visible at a glance. Staff can select the status icon to open a popover with more details about their connection.

By making connectivity easier to find, staff can identify and troubleshoot issues sooner instead of discovering a connection problem in the middle of a sale.

This update is automatically available to all staff on Shopify POS v11.14. No setup or action is required.

Tax accuracy has improved for orders shipping to customers in the United States. Tax is now calculated using the fulfillment location that your order routing settings select for each order. For local pickup orders, tax is calculated from the pickup location. Now, if you fulfill orders from multiple locations, tax reflects where each order actually ships from, and your order records show the ship-from location used in the calculation. This is beneficial because tax rates can depend on where an order ships from, and your records are more accurate for reporting and filing.

The Shopify Payments activity report gives you a clearer way to understand how money moved through your Shopify Payments balance over a selected date range.

You can open it from Finance > Documents > Shopify Payments activity report or from the Payouts page, then generate a report that brings together your starting balance, gross activity, fees, payouts, and ending balance in one place.

Use the report when you're closing a month, checking why your Shopify Payments balance changed, or reviewing activity before payouts reach your bank account. The report is organized around balance activity and transaction dates, so it gives a different view than payout-by-payout exports from the Payouts page. You can also export the report as a PDF for your records or finance workflows.

The activity report helps you review balance movement across a period, while the Payouts page remains the place to review individual payout deposits.

We've redesigned the Point of Sale channel page in your Shopify admin so your in-store setup and performance are right where you start. The page now opens with a Customize the in-store experience section that previews your store's actual lock screen, customer display, and receipts, so you can see what your staff and customers see and open the POS editor for any of them in one click. You can still open the editor from Point of Sale > Settings > Customization as well. 🛍️

You can also read your in-store performance from the same page. A new Analytics section shows gross sales, orders, discounts, and returns for today, the last 7 days, or the last 30 days, and you can filter by location if you sell from more than one store. Each metric links through to the full report. Managing your retail setup is quicker too, with direct links to manage your staff and locations. If you haven't set up a POS device yet, you'll see a QR code to download the Shopify POS app and start selling in person. The new page is available to everyone using the Point of Sale channel, and staff need analytics permissions to see the analytics section.

Starting October 1, 2026
Inventory analytics models now measure stock by on-hand quantity instead of available quantity. This better reflects real world information of your physical inventory.

  • On-hand quantity includes all units physically at a location, including units committed to open orders and units currently unavailable.
  • Available quantity includes only units that are available to sell.

What to expect
From October 1 onward, these reports reflect everything you actually hold, not just what's sellable, so reported inventory may be higher than before by the number of committed and unavailable units. When writing ShopifyQL, this change can be seen when you query "FROM inventory" or "FROM inventory_by_location". Any reports powered by these models will reflect this change including:

  • Products by sell-through rate
  • Products by days of inventory remaining
  • Inventory adjustment changes
  • Inventory sold daily by product
  • ABC product analysis
  • Month-end inventory value
  • Inventory transfer orders and shipments
  • Month-end inventory snapshot

Your past data won't change. Reporting before September 1, 2026 still shows available quantity, so historical numbers and trends stay exactly as they were. Only September 1 and later use on-hand.

Update: Tax rates vary by destination. Previously, the original destination tax stayed on the order even after you updated the shipping address, so your financials and tax reporting could drift out of sync. Now the order reflects the taxes for where it's actually shipping, which keeps your records accurate.

  • Taxes are recalculated for the new shipping address, and you’ll see a preview of the updated amounts before saving.
  • If the change creates a payment difference, you'll see it before you save, so you can choose to send an invoice to the customer.
