October 2, 2026

 • 🎨 NEW! Reading Themes in Reader — Reading in the Reader app on iOS and Android used to mean a choice between light and dark. Thanks to Adam, you can now pick a reading theme from the Appearance sheet: Crisp, Sepia, Soft, Slate, Ink, Night, or a seasonal PSL 🍂.
 • 🔊 NEW! Lifelike Voices (beta) — Reader's text-to-speech now offers 16 new and (we think) much-improved voices on web and in the mobile app, in American and British English. There’s now a play button next to each one so you can hear a sample before you pick, and on mobile, your last few voices also show up under Recent for quick switching. Props to Artem for spearheading this update.
 • 🎧 Improved Text-to-Speech Controls — While listening in the Reader app on mobile, the playback controls lived inside the bottom menu, so they either disappeared when the menu hid or covered the text. Artem moved them into a floating player that shrinks into a small pill as you scroll, keeping play, pause and skip one tap away. The Return and Jump arrows also point the right way again, and auto-scroll picks back up when you return to the spoken text. …

Readwise: Ghostreader nutzt GPT-6 Luna, neue Startseite

September 25, 2026

 • 👻 NEW! GPT-6 Luna For Ghostreader Summaries Default — Tristan and Ibai upgraded Ghostreader’s default model for preset prompts, including the automatic summary and document tagging, so they’re now powered by GPT-6 Luna. As with previous default models, this is included with your Reader subscription.
 • 🏠 NEW! Redesigned Homepage — Ibai and Christina gave readwise.io a new front page to match the app’s own glow-up.
 • 📄 Fixed PDF Dark Mode on Android — When reading a PDF in dark mode with inverted colors in the Reader app on Android, the inversion would vanish as soon as you opened a sidebar. Tadek shipped a fix that reapplies your color setting whenever the viewer rebuilds, so PDFs stay inverted on Boox devices and other Android tablets.
 • 🔲 Fixed Two-Column Mode on Tablets — With the two-column Horizontal Pagination option turned on, the Reader app on Android tablets such as Boox devices and Samsung Galaxy Tabs showed a single full-width column instead. A rounding difference of less than a pixel meant the second column never fit. Mati gave the layout the tolerance it needed, so both columns appear as expected. …

September 18, 2026

 • 💌 NEW! Redesigned Readwise Emails — To match the recent Readwise app redesign, your Daily Review and Themed Review emails have a fresh design built by Ibai and Christina, with cleaner highlight cards and links that take you straight to editing, tagging, or sharing a highlight. To try it, head to your email preferences on the Readwise website and turn off "Use the original email design". You can switch back the same way whenever you like.
 • 🧩 NEW! Reader API Highlights — You can now create highlights through the Reader API. Send a
POST
to
/api/v3/save/
with the document's
parent_id
and the passage as
content
(plus optional
notes
and
tags
), and the highlight is anchored to that document. Previously the same request quietly created a stray article instead. Thanks to Piotr, mismatched requests now return a clear error too. See the API docs for an example. …

September 11, 2026

 • 🎬 NEW! YouTube Chapters — When you save a YouTube video to Reader on web, the video's own chapter markers now show up in the Contents panel, so you can jump between sections the way you would with an article's headings. Click a chapter and the player seeks straight to it, with the transcript following along. Thanks to Piotr, this works for every video saved from now on.
 • 🫥 NEW! Hide Focus Indicator — Reader on web marks the paragraph you're on with a colored bar beside it. Some readers found this distracting, so Piotr added a "Hide focus indicator" toggle in Preferences. With it hidden, the arrow keys and space bar scroll the page the way they do on any other site, though a few keyboard shortcuts that rely on the indicator will no longer work.
 • 🔎 NEW! Scan Loupe — Selecting text in a scanned page with the Readwise app's Scan tool now shows a magnifying loupe above your finger, and the selection handle sits offset from your fingertip so it no longer hides the exact boundary you're choosing. Johannes added this for both manual selection and automatic scan review on iOS and Android. …

September 4, 2026

 • 🎯 Fixed Focus Mode — Focus mode in Reader on web and desktop was only dimming the paragraphs around you on articles and podcast transcripts. On emails, EPUBs, text-view PDFs, and Twitter threads nothing dimmed at all, and on YouTube transcripts everything did. Krzys fixed the dimming rules, so focus mode now properly spotlights the paragraph you're on across every document type.
 • 📄 Fixed PDF Page Shortcut — In Reader on web, the
shift+J
shortcut for jumping to a page in a PDF did nothing if the window was too narrow to show the page-number box in the header. Krzys made the shortcut reveal that box on demand, so you can jump to a page no matter how small your window is.
 • 🔑 Fixed Custom OpenAI Keys — Adding your own OpenAI key to Reader on the Integrations page could fail with an "Invalid key" error even when the key was valid and funded, because the check insisted on access to one particular model. Tristan relaxed that check so any key that can run Ghostreader's models is accepted, and Piotr closed a gap where a blank entry could quietly wipe a saved key.
 • 🔗 Fixed Ghostreader Citations — When a Ghostreader answer in Reader cited a passage containing code or bracketed notation, the citation could come out as a run of plain monospace text instead of a link. Tristan taught the citation parser to handle those anchors, so citations stay clickable. …

August 28, 2026

 • 🍎 Improved EPUB Uploads — Apple Books formats some EPUBs as a folder that looks like it's a single file, and dropping one of those books on Reader resulted in error messages instead of a book. Lior taught Reader to recognize those folders and pack them back into a proper EPUB right in your browser, so books dragged out of Apple Books now upload like any other.
 • 🤖 Improved Ghostreader Skills — Running a skill like
/find-similar
on ten documents would leave you with ten identical chat titles, and asking Ghostreader to tag your documents could tag the wrong one entirely. Piotr fixed both: skill chats now name themselves after the document or selection they're about, and tagging targets the document you actually have open.
 • 📊 Improved Chart Embeds — Articles with interactive Datawrapper or Flourish charts were showing a "some content could not be imported" notice where the chart belonged. Krzys made Reader swap in the chart's image, linked to the live interactive version, and cleaned up the notices already sitting in previously saved documents.
 • 📺 Fixed YouTube Embeds — YouTube videos embedded in saved articles showed "Error 153 / Video player configuration error" in the Reader app. Krzys gave those embeds a real referrer, so they play again on both iOS and Android. …

Readwise: Auto-Scroll bleibt erhalten, Kindle-Import verbessert

August 21, 2026

 • 🔊 Fixed Auto-Scroll Setting — Turning off auto-scroll during text-to-speech on web only lasted until you closed the player; the next document would start following the voice again. Mati made the choice stick, so once you disable auto-scrolling from the command palette it stays off across documents until you turn it back on.
 • 📕 Fixed Kindle Disconnecting — Removing your Kindle connection from the Readwise sync page used to just tell you to uninstall the browser extension, and the card kept insisting Kindle was connected even after you did. Ibai wired up a proper Remove Connection button that clears the connection and sync state, leaves your books and highlights untouched, and stays disconnected even with the extension still installed. Reconnecting is one click whenever you want it back.
 • 📥 Fixed Kindle Notebook Import — Importing a Kindle notebook export (the HTML file you email in or upload) had a few rough edges: Japanese exports failed outright, colored bookmarks turned into bogus highlights, and when several highlights shared a page their notes piled onto the first one. Rasul added Japanese support and Ibai fixed the bookmark and note handling, so every highlight now arrives with its own note attached. …

August 14, 2026

 • ✍️ Improved Adding Manual Highlights — Johannes redesigned the flow for manually adding highlights in the Readwise app. Book search now sits right in the header next to your recent books, and after saving you can tap "Add another highlight" without redoing your setup: the app keeps your selected book and input method, whether you're typing, dictating, or scanning. A clear Done button wraps things up when you're finished.
 • 📷 Improved Highlight Scanning — Thanks to Johannes, scanning highlights in the Readwise app now remembers your preferred highlighting mode instead of asking every time (and you can change it right from the camera screen), selecting a passage from a scan is more precise, the analyzing animation stays smooth from capture to result, and a crash when previewing scans on some Android phones is gone.
 • 📑 Improved Highlight Details — Ibai brought back some per-highlight details that got lost in the Readwise redesign. Page and location numbers show on highlight cards again, chapter headings appear in full instead of being truncated or missing, and each highlight's sheet now shows when you last reviewed it. He also reordered the card's action buttons so the ones you reach for most come first. …

Readwise: Ghostreader durchsucht Bibliothek, Chat in mobiler Reader-App

August 7, 2026

 • 🤖 NEW! Global Ghostreader — On web and desktop, Ghostreader can now work across your entire library, not just the document you have open. Thanks to Piotr, Tristan, and Adam, you can ask questions that draw on everything you've saved. Ghostreader searches all of your documents, pulls in the relevant passages, and answers with citations that link straight to the source. It also comes with skills (reusable AI workflows, including predefined ones like Advanced Summary or the option to create your own) and tools that let it act on your library: tagging, taking notes, saving documents, and editing metadata. You stay in charge of when each tool can be used, with individual settings to always allow, ask first, or stay disabled in Ghostreader's preferences.
 • 💬 NEW! Ghostreader Chat on Mobile — Adam brought Ghostreader's single-document chat to the Reader app. You can now chat with the document you're reading right on your phone by starting a conversation from the document toolbar, the annotation bar, or a highlight.
 • 🎛️ NEW! Modern Mobile Toolbar — Alongside mobile chat, Adam and Tristan gave the Reader app's reading toolbars a modern redesign. New accounts start on the modern layout, and everyone else will see a one-time introduction the next time they open a document. Try it from there, or switch between modern and classic anytime from the toolbar layout option in Settings. …

Readwise: Native Mastery-Karten, neue OCR-Engine, Discards zurück

July 31, 2026

 • 🧠 Fixed Mastery Cards on Mobile — Ibai and Tristan rebuilt Mastery card creation natively in the Readwise app, fixing reports of cards that showed a "created" toast but never actually saved. You can now create Mastery cards and review them right on your phone.
 • 🗂️ Fixed Library Discards — Ibai brought back the Discards section in the Library, which went missing in the move to the new Readwise app. Every highlight you've discarded lives in one place again, so if you swipe one away by mistake or change your mind about it later, it's easy to rescue.
 • 📷 Fixed Multilingual Scanning — Johannes moved the Readwise app's photo highlight scanning to a new OCR engine, so scanning book pages in languages other than English should work smoothly again. And if automatic detection can't find your marks, the app now falls back to manual selection so you can grab the passages yourself.
 • 🖼️ Fixed Highlight Share Images — Johannes restored text sharing and dark mode in the highlight share sheet, brought back highlighted words in Classic share images, and made long highlights stay readable when exported as an image. Sharing beautiful highlight images should feel polished again. …

July 24, 2026

 • 🎉 NEW! Readwise 2.0 — The Readwise iOS and Android apps have been rebuilt from the ground up, and they're live now. Your library, your streak, your workflows, and your Daily Review are all exactly where you left them — the apps just finally look and feel as good as they deserve: fresh design, smoother animations, and much faster everywhere. You'll also find better, more accurate search, a smoother Daily Review, a beautiful new Stats screen, and new ways to capture — scan your paper book annotations, add highlights by voice, and chat with your highlights via AI. Update the app to try it all.
 • 🎚️ Fixed Daily Review Tuning — Ibai restored precise frequency tuning in the new app: you can once again dial in exactly how often each book shows up in your Daily Review, rather than just more/less, and adjusting it no longer crashes on large highlight libraries.
 • 📚 Fixed Adding Supplemental Books — Ibai brought back the option to add supplemental books, so you can search for any book and pull its popular highlights into your library right from the Add & Sync screen. …

July 17, 2026

 • 🕰️ NEW! Clock While Reading — You can now keep an eye on the time without leaving your book: turn on "Show clock" in the Reader mobile app's settings and the current time stays visible while you read. Thanks to Piotr for getting this out the door.
 • 📚 Fixed Books Not Opening — Artem tracked down a crash where tapping a book on the iOS app could bounce you back to the home screen or leave you on a black screen. Books now open right up again.
 • 🔍 Fixed Search History — Piotr fixed the ✕ button next to recent searches in the mobile app, so you can properly tidy up your search history with a single tap again.
 • ℹ️ Fixed Sidebar Info — Ibai shipped a fix for the Info sidebar on web sometimes showing details from a document you'd viewed earlier. The sidebar now always matches the document in front of you.
 • 📖 Fixed EPUB Loading — Tristan resolved a bug where opening certain EPUBs on web could leave you staring at an endless loading spinner. Books now load reliably.
 • 🔊 Improved Text-to-Speech Pacing — Thanks to Tristan, text-to-speech now tracks your position more accurately in languages with regional variants, like Chinese. The moving highlight should keep pace with the narration instead of drifting ahead or behind. …

July 10, 2026

 • 🆕 NEW! Markdown Uploads — Thanks to Tristan, you can now upload Markdown files to Reader the same way as EPUBs and PDFs: drag and drop them in or use the file picker on web, or send them to the mobile app through your device's share menu. The document's title comes straight from the file, and the first image in the file becomes its cover.
 • ✅ NEW! Daily Review API — You can now mark your Daily Review as complete through the public API, thanks to Rasul. This is a useful endpoint for anyone building personal dashboards or homepages on top of the Readwise service.
 • 🌐 NEW! Article Language Control — Rasul added a
language
parameter to the Reader API and MCP server, so you can specify a document's language when saving it and that choice sticks so that automatic detection no longer overrides it. If you read in multiple languages, your saves should now end up labeled the way you intended.
 • 🔊 Fixed Text-to-Speech Errors — Artem tracked down a bug where pressing play on text-to-speech could fail with a server error while audio for other listeners was being generated at the same time. Narration now starts reliably, even at peak listening hours. …
