Following our recent Canadian pricing update, we’re writing to share details of changes to our Australian print pricing.

Recent supplier price increases mean we have had to make adjustments to pricing for books printed in Australia.

As with the Canadian changes, this is not a blanket increase across all products. The adjustments vary depending on the binding type and paper stock selected, with some prices increasing while others have seen a slight decrease.

The updated pricing is already live for new customers and will be introduced for existing Bookvault customers on the 30th of June.

If you would like to review the pricing changes, you can do so using the quote tool now.

We remain committed to keeping our pricing as competitive as possible while continuing to deliver the print quality and service standards you expect from Bookvault.

If you have any questions or would like further clarification, our support team will be happy to help: customers@bookvault.app

Thanks for your continued support,

New EU customs rules come into force on all EU bound deliveries received on or after the 1st July: From this date all orders with a commercial value under €150 (excluding shipping) will be subject to an additional €3 duty per HS code. As all orders are classified as books, this will mean an additional €3 will be added per order.

As part of the supply chain, our carrier will also add an additional 4% deferment fee which will be reflected as part of this.
To take into account the delivery times on orders, this pricing will be reflected within the Bookvault portal from the 22nd of June. You’ll see this as an additional surcharge added to your order.

How will this affect Direct Sales?

For orders from your direct stores bound for the EU, you have two options:

  1. Use a tax calculation such as the EAS plugin (https://easproject.com/)
who will help calculate the fees for you.

  2. A tick-box will be added to the ‘App Settings’ menu on the ‘Apps’ page of the Bookvault portal. Here you’ll be able to enable the €3 charge being added to orders.

If you have any questions about how this legislation may affect you, please reach out to customers@bookvault.app

When you’re printing your book, it’s easy to focus on the big things: cover design, trim size, paper type. But there’s one detail that can completely change how your book feels the moment someone picks it up: the finish.

Matte or gloss isn’t just a technical choice. It shapes how your book looks, how it catches the light, and how readers perceive it before they’ve even read the blurb. In other words, it plays a big part in first impressions.

Matte and gloss lamination printers

Why Finish Matters

A book’s finish affects more than just appearance. It changes the overall feel of the product and can influence how professional, premium, bold, or commercial a book appears at first glance.

Whether your book is displayed online, photographed for social media, or picked up in person, lamination helps communicate the tone of the cover design. The right finish supports the story your design is already telling.

Matte: Soft, Subtle, Premium

Matte finishes absorb light, giving your book a smooth, non-reflective look.

It’s often the go-to for:

  • Romance

  • Fantasy

  • Dark or atmospheric covers

It works because it feels considered, understated, and premium. If your book leans emotional, moody, or design-led, matte tends to elevate that. …

  • Since our last update, the EU parliament has passed amendments to EUDR legislation that not only delay implementation but also remove books and other products in commodity code 49xxx from the scope of EUDR. On 18th December the EU council ratified that vote, meaning it will pass into law in second half of December
  • This means that books, journals and other products such as calendars that sit within 49xxxx will no longer be subject to EUDR requirements, and so supply into the EU will be able to continue as it does now
  • It should be noted that certain products – diaries (except heavily illustrated) and notebooks, amongst others – sit with commodity code 48xxx and so will be subject to EUDR when it comes in on the delayed date of 30 December 2026. These products will still need to show they are deforestation free, and PODW still expect to be able to do so when that time comes. However, if you are unclear as to whether your product will fall in or out of scope, please get in touch with the team

With the holidays fast approaching, we’re sharing our suggested Christmas cut-off dates to help ensure your books have the best opportunity to reach readers in time for Christmas.

Placing your orders before these dates will give your books the best chance of being dispatched in time for Christmas, however it does not guarantee a delivery before Christmas. We always recommend ordering as early as possible and selecting a premium carrier option, as carrier services can experience delays during the holiday period. These cut-offs are designed to provide the safest window for production and dispatch. Below are our recommended order dates for this year:

For orders printed from Bookvault UK:

Bookvault Bespoke:
28th November
Bespoke orders from Shopify, Woocommerce, Wix & Payhip:
5th December
General Bookvault Orders:
12th December
Bookvault Priority (incl Shopify, Woocommerce, Wix & Payhip):
16th December
Bookvault Rush:
18th December

For print fulfilled by our partner locations (US, Canada and Australia):

Bookvault US, Australia & Canada:
5th December

With only a few weeks left before EUDR is going into force, this is a quick update on the situation as of now:

• Currently, there is no agreement on a delay, so the legislation is currently still due to come into effect on 30th December 2025
• After initially proposing a delay, the EU Commission then changed tack in October and has proposed going ahead on the original date, but delaying enforcement until end June 2026, and reducing requirements for small and micro businesses within the EU. This does reduce the burdens on EU businesses, but unfortunately has no positive impact on businesses outside of the EU who still need to be sending compliant products at the end of 2025 with the required Due Diligence Statements and TARIC codes in place as appropriate
• The EU Council, meanwhile, has now come to a different position – to delay the legislation a full year and to have a review into whether further simplification should take place
• The EU Parliament, for their part, is due to vote 25-27th November and if they and the EU Council can come to an agreed position between them, then the legislation does look likely to be delayed whatever the wishes of the EU Commission. However, there is no guarantee that the parliament will agree with the Council’s position, as opinion over what happens next appears so divided, so it remains the case that anything could happen, including no delay at all …

On Friday August 29th 2025, the United States ended de minimis treatment for goods entering the US from most countries (it had already ended for China and Hong Kong originating deliveries from May 2nd). This potted summary gives you the essential low-down of what changed and what it might mean for your books.

What are de minimis exceptions?
Many countries have de minimis exceptions for duties payable on products imported from overseas. For example, no customs duties are payable on products imported into the UK valued at under £135. For the EU, the threshold is 150 Euros. And for Canada, it is set low, at $20 Canadian. Until August 29th, the US had a very high threshold – $800 – and it is that threshold that has now been scrapped

Why did the US change their policy?
The US had a very high threshold relative to other countries, and the growth in online retail had led to a huge increase in low-value imports into the US that fell under the threshold (see chart below). Changes to the threshold were already being discussed under the last Biden administration but the new Trump administration has moved further and removed the threshold altogether

Credit: BBC

Does that mean Tariffs need to be paid on books sent to the US? …
