We’re back with a patch less than a week. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as the saying goes. We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. This patch provides a few bug fixes and improvements. Hopefully, the new version makes things better.

[Fixed] Mail.app account switched offline #965

Sometimes traffic of non-filtered protocols in filtered apps was corrupted due to a bug. That might break IMAP connections in the Apple Mail app. As a result, users of AdGuard for Mac could not access their email accounts, they showed “Offline” in the preferences. Luckily, we managed to fix this issue at the earliest possible time, so now AdGuard users shouldn’t have any trouble with receiving emails.

It took us 7 months from the previous minor release to prepare this one. Remarkably, the previous big release took place almost exactly a year ago, on October 12, 2020. That’s a substantial period of time, so we can’t help but hold our breath when we present the new version of AdGuard for Mac. It delivers such features as DNS filtering, native Apple silicon support, and Monterey support. The first two ones have been used by beta testing enthusiasts for a long time now, but today we’ve finally got to the release point, so the features will be available for all users.

We've used the same approach as in AdGuard for Windows, Android, and iOS, bringing to the app for Mac DNS servers, DNS blocklists and allowlists. One of feature requests from users was adding DNSCrypt, DoH, and DoT support. Finally, it's all there, DoT included. AdGuard DNS has become the first public DNS resolver to support the cutting-edge DNS-over-QUIC protocol. Now you needn't rely on a DNS server provided by your ISP by default, you can choose DNS servers from known DNS providers and add custom DNS servers. One beta and two RCs — and here comes AdGuard v7.7 for Windows! This time we didn't encounter significant difficulties on our way to the release stage, so the development cycle turned out to be fast. Hope you'll enjoy the way the new version of AdGuard for Windows works, meanwhile we'll keep moving to the top — v8.0.

The main focus of this release was to fix bugs and improve user experience. We performed tough tests and were unable to crash the app! But you can surely fix it, right? 🙂

For starters, we implemented low-level DNS settings, added the Finnish language and updated other translations.

There are not many significant changes in this version but we’ve put our energy into something no less important. We updated CoreLibs and DNSLibs, fixed various issues along the way, and did some magic with the filtering log to make it more user-friendly.

There is a new section named Blocking mode for DNS in low-level settings. Now you can select the response type if you've requested a DNS domain blocked by a DNS filtering rule. There are three response types to choose from.

In this version we focused on updating CoreLibs. Namely, we dealt with the priority of existing modifiers and added several new ones: $denyallow, $redirect-rule, $removeheader, and $specifichide. It might be of interest to users who’d like to create their own ad filters. Besides, we’ve made userscript exclusions work properly and fixed all issues found. We know you are waiting for v4.0, so are we. Trust us, it’s worth it.

In this version we focused on improving filtering in Safari. In parallel, we solved the problem with YouTube ads that AdGuard users had been encountering. We’ve developed two ways to block them: a shortcut, the instructions for which can be found on our blog, and a Safari extension.

The new extension is designed specifically to block ads on YouTube in Safari and runs only there. Unlike the shortcut, the extension is built into the app, so you don’t need to install it manually. To block ads on YouTube, tap the “Share” button and select “Block ads on YouTube (by AdGuard).” After that, the “with AdGuard” caption will appear next to the YouTube logo. If it’s not there, you’ve probably reloaded the page and need to activate the extension again.

AdGuard Browser Extension v3.6.5 is released.

We’ve added support for the $removeparam modifier which allowed us to get rid of the old Remove tracking parameters setting and add a new one that enables AdGuard URL Tracking filter. This will make deleting tracking parameters more flexible, so that everybody can create $removeparam user rules for their needs.

Moreover, in addition to “Do-Not-Track”, another signal appeared in the Stealth Mode settings — “Global Privacy Control”. These signals are sent to the websites you are visiting not to track you and to hide your search queries. Finally, we’ve added the birthday promo to the extension — AdGuard turns 12 on June 1!

Quite a lot of changes this time around, even if there aren't as many standouts as in some of the previous updates. We're sure that you'll be able to find a line or two in the changelog that speaks to you!

The ability to set up custom upstreams to resolve PTR queries for local addresses and to disable the automatic resolving of clients' addresses #2704

This option will improve your DNS privacy when it comes to addressing local resources. Give it a go unless you want to share your private data with googles of the world.

Search by clients' names in the query log #1273

There's not much that can be said about this feature, it's quite self-explanatory: now you can search up queries by specific clients. 🤷‍♀️

However, we wanted to highlight it anyway since so many of you have asked for it for quite a while. Hopefully, we delivered! 😅

Well, well, 3.6.2 release arrived. One beta and two RCs have proved successful, we said, “Hooray,” and released the final version right away.

So, what’s inside it? We could write about updated CoreLibs and DnsLibs, improved data collection for reports and minor issues like parsing SDNS links for DoQ servers, but honestly, not many people would understand what the hell it means. Trust us, the app has only gotten better!

P.S. v4.0 is coming. Hopefully, v3.6.2 will be the last way station before the new era.
